Censer
Censer is a contemporary reimagining of a traditional incense holder by EJM studio in collaboration with heritage manufacturer Ketley Brick. For it’s debut at London Craft Week, I created a large scale altar cloth and drapery.
Censer launched at Studio Casso for London Craft Week 2025 and will be available for purchase in late 2025.
To celebrate the launch, EJM Studio partnered with myselft, The Company Formerly Known as Haeckels, and Increments to create an interactive installation at Studio Casso in Hackney, London as part of the London Craft Week.
I developed a bespoke altar cloth and a series of suspended drapes to enhance the atmosphere and tactile experience. Increments has created a dimensional soundscape inspired by ecclesiastical symbolism. Ultrasonic sensors measure visitors’ interaction within the space, amplifying their experience and connection with Censer – resulting in a truly multi-sensory experience. Simultaneously, Censer will be featured in the window of the company formerly known as Haeckels’ Broadway Market flagship store, further situating the piece within a narrative of contemporary craft and holistic wellbeing.
On the partnerships, Ed Milton, founder of EJM Studio, states: “This project is as much about highlighting British makers and manufacturers as it is about the product itself. I’ve always admired Formerly Known as Haeckels’ ability to combine locally sourced materials with innovation. Adopting a holistic approach to any new product is essential in today's climate and Haeckels embodies this philosophy. What drew me to Lauren's work was its tactile nature and craftsmanship. It’s been great to collaborate with designers from different disciplines and with different skillsets. It’s easy to fall into a narrow way of thinking but seeing the project through an original lens not only enriched the design process but also elevated the final result.”
